How to Prepare for the Recruitment Test Being Conducted by PSEB in April 09, for Post of Asst. Engineers (SDO)

As we already know PSEB has advertised 125 no. posts of Assistant Engineers. More information is here.
We have received a number of queries from wannabe Assistant Engineers (SDOs)of PSEB on how to prepare for the competitive examination.
The following posts have been advertised for Asstt. Engineers
- Electrical 80 posts
- Electronics & Communication 15 posts
- Mechanical 15 posts
- Computer 05 posts
It would be very kind of fellow engineers, if they can provide guidlines/ tips in the form of comments below, which shall be useful to their would be fellow PSEB engineers. The proposed exam is scheduled in April and shall be conducted by a third party.
Test Results declared but no update on recruitments
Hi Everyone,
The results were declared on 29th Oct'09 but afterwards no update is available on the PSEB website.Can anyone please update about the recruitment???...whether the appointment will be on the basis of merit only or interviews will be conducted?

Book or syllabus for Civil paper?
Can anyone tell me that which books one should follow to crack the exam for Civil AE's as the number of posts are also very less. If anyone knows or has a little bit idea please do inform me about it.

whats the opinion of persons sitting in the HR deptt and managing this website regarding the exam date . In which month we can expect it to be conducted and why the board is extending date again and again and why the deputy sectty recruitment is on leave for so long ?

what will be the expected date for the exam? as submission date is geting extended and in advertisment it is writen exam will be held in april
Be careful about -ive marking
I would suggest the prospective candidates that "ATTEMPT ONLY THOSE QUESTIONS IN WHICH YOU ARE ATLEAST 100% SURE". This is vital in the light of the fact that -ive marking (as per past trend is 50%) makes a HUGE difference. Just one wrong question can make a differnece between selection/rejection. Secondly look out for some catchy words in the ques. like NOT, EXCEPT etc.

Whats the net pay in hand one gets for AE?

Approximate net pay in hand can vary from 20000/- PM to 30000/- PM for AE, depends on where you get posting and what are the additional allowances, e.g. if you are posted in generation there is substantial Generation Allowance.
This is expected to increase further with 6th Pay Commission implementation

Follow one book from any
Follow one book from any publisher for practicing objective type questions.Do not waste time and energy on too many books.Keep focus and practice that one workbook thoroughly.
Don't be prejudiced/disheartened into thinking whether selection will be fair or not.Keep your Faith.Prepare honestly and leave results to God.

Fair Recruitment
First of all, the interested engineers should make it clear that the recruitment process in PSEB is very fair and there are no chances of getting recruited through unfair means. So they should keep their 100% focus on preparing well.
Further as the test is multiple choice with limited time and negative marking, technique and speed play very important roles.
